Healing Gardens, St. Vincent Hospital

Healing Gardens, St. Vincent Hospital

The Healing Garden is a special environment designed for holistic healing that aids in faster physical and mental recovery. In today's wellness and spa environment, healing gardens can play a vital role in speeding recovery and lowering healthcare costs. These gardens successfully aide in patient recovery by brightening spirits and exercising the mind and body.

This garden provides guests with places to stretch their legs, breathe fresh air and feel the warmth of the sun. Varied landscaping creates seasonal changes in color, aroma and texture. Framed views capture magnificent vistas of surrounding Santa Fe.

All garden features were designed as part of a cohesive plan that provides a welcoming, interactive experience with nature. Patients benefit both consciously and subconsciously from the wonderful energy the gardens generate.

Patients move through terraced spaces starting at the upper, fully accessible terrace to the lower stepped terrace. By increasing the interactive experience of each level the gardens actively support and encourage healing.

Waterfalls separate multi-level water pools, allowing patients with different impairments to touch the water without bending over. Interaction with the water benefits patients with its spiritual healing powers.

The plan integrates benches into walls allowing patients to sit safely and comfortably on the perimeter. Benches at the upper level are long and curvilinear, allowing seating in different social settings.

A symbolic river formed in the pavement pattern flows through the entire garden, binding the site into a unified experience.

The lighting design accents key elements within the garden. Steps and benches are under lit and trees are up lit to accent their graceful branching patterns.
